[glow=gold,2,300]The Burning Plains[/glow]
Long ago, before humans corrupted the world with their technology, in a time when the land wasn’t scarred by cities and roads, cats ruled the earth. Not the tame house pets of the future, but the ancient big cats of old. The dinosaurs are gone and now these great felines have taken over, living in a world both exciting and dangerous.
Deep in the heart of the prehistoric world, three clans of feral cats live and fight, co-existing under ever delicate treaty of peace, unless someone should break the rules. They are intelligent cats, whose society has laws, language, tradition, and leaders. They herd their prey, keeping the herds in one place and selectively killing off certain ones for food at a controlled rate so the clan can always eat, and protecting them from the wild predators that would steal them. They fight with the ultimate weapon, fire, keeping it alive by feeding it wood, and using it to guard there herds and to fight their battles when waging wars. They even have pets of sorts, their helpers. Treelings, they are called. Little lemur or monkey like creatures that ride on their back and help them with everyday tasks like feeding wood to the fires, or carrying torches. They are the companions of The Named, and every cat can have one if they wish. The named are possessed of what they call “The Light in the Eyes”, the bright awareness that can be seen in the eyes of all The Named. This awareness signifies their intelligence, proves they are smarter than the mindless beast they herd or the other wild creatures driven by instinct alone.
These great cats also have enemies, their wilder, less sophisticated cousins, the Un-Named. These cats live alone or in small wandering groups, surviving simply off the wild prey animals that they can find. There numbers are large, and they are selfish animals, often over hunting. For this reason they often steal herd animals from The Named, and they are at constant war with them. Some of them have “The Light in the Eyes” like their Named cousins, while others do not, surviving only on instinct, incapable of intelligent speech and the interactions that hold The Named clans together. In some the light shines brighter than even that of the named, while in some it is dimmer, or even barely existent. These cats can sometimes speak and interact as normally as one of The Named, while others may lack full speech, with stuttered or broken sentences. The Named despise them and believe that none of them are as good as their kind, and mixing of the two is forbidden. It was often rumored that even the Un-Named that lack the obvious “Light in the Eye” and gift of speech can think just as well those of The Named, but it was never proven….
