Darkclaw was lonely.
He slipped out of camp unnoticed. With a bit of a smile, he thought about his new little sisters and brothers -- half-sisters and half-brothers. He was close to Cinderclaw, and if Larkspur made her happy, he wanted to be close with him, too. He thought of his new little sisters and brothers and thought of poor little Riverkit.
As his mind wandered, Darkclaw climbed up the rocks. He shut his eyes for only heartbeats; he'd lived here his whole life, climbing up the mountain a ways was nothing he couldn't do. But he caught a loose rock and slipped. With a yowl, the young tom fell.
He scrambled to catch a rock, and when he did, he pulled himself up to a stable position. A few scratches here and there, nothing serious. His forepaw was bleeding, thought. I knew I was stupid; I shouldn't have come out here alone, Darkclaw scolded himself. He got ready to limp back to the camp. |

Sagepaw cut off the mouse that had wandered from lower in the mountain to highrocks, of all places. Why would a mouse want to play at highrocks? She cornered it, snapping her teeth just whiskers from its face. It squealed shrilly and skittered away, but she stepped on it and finally killed it. "Little mouse, little mouse, thank you for playing," Sagepaw sang, licking the dead mouse affectionately.
The lizard watching shook its head.
Sagepaw had just picked up the mouse as she heard a fearful yowl and whipped around. She had just noticed a dark tom nearby, falling! "Stop, I'll help!" she cried, dropping the mouse and sliding down the slope toward Darkclaw, who had caught himself. He seemed alright, just roughed up.
"Sweet stars, are you alright?" Sagepaw gasped, skidding to a stop a tail length from him. Her normal shy behaviour was forgotten in the moment of crisis. "You're bleeding!" she fretted, twisting her tail anxiously.
