Flame
Age of Cat: Thirty-three moons.
Rank of Cat: Loner in the Colony by the Lake.
Gender of Cat: Tom.
Appearance: Flame could be considered handsome by some standards: by other standards, he is strange-looking. His fur is a dark brown tabby in color, which does not seem to correlate with his name to a Clancat, but which makes perfect sense to the colony cats -- after all, he is named for his eyes and personality, not his fur. The base color of his fairly short, glossy fur is a medium, slightly sandy-tinted brown, with obviously more sand-colored sections under his belly, on his muzzle and on the bridge of his nose, and as a sort of slash-shaped wedge on the back and sides of his neck. On his chin, a tiny patch of white lingers, barely enough to be noticed or mentioned. Dark mackerel tabby stripes run throughout his body, almost perfectly black in color, and a single thick stripe of black runs the length of his back, from the back of his skull to the base of his tail. The stripes fade on that wedge of otherwise pale fur on his neck, giving him a distinctive look. Elsewhere, the stripes have a tendency to break off into speckles and dashes, not forming very long stripes anywhere. His eyes, the feature for which he is officially named, are a blazing orange-amber in color: usually, they are filled with an aggression to compete with the color in intensity. Flame's nose and pads are brick-red.
Flame is a strongly built cat: though it is not immediately obvious from a distance, he is a large tom, with a sturdy build. Appearance-wise, this makes him look a tad small-headed and thin-necked in comparison to the bulk of his body. However, the sheer fact he looks so dangerous is enough to make anyone not notice his somewhat awkward proportions. Flame is just about fast enough to be able to feed himself, but his strength is what makes him formidable: he has little endurance, though, and if he wishes to defeat an opponent, he must do it swiftly and with raw strength. Rather than outlast, outrun, or outwit, he has to out-brawl.
Personality: Though Flame is officially named for his eyes, word is out that his personality offered itself for the choice of name as well. The dark tabby is quick-tempered, aggressive, and destructive like a wildfire. Volatile and quick to act before thinking -- often leaving the thinking out completely -- Flame is a dangerous cat, to both himself and those around him. Generally, he is quiet and not especially curious, though naturally he wonders about things outside of the world he knows: he has so far found the small territory by the lake to be enough for him, though his spirit has begun to yearn for more. So far, he has been too young to dare to officially claim a leadership position in the colony, but his courage is slowly gathering and his skills and knowledge are growing.
In everyday life, Flame is not brutal, but such barbaric action can be drawn from him with the right kind of treatment. If he were to find out Longclaw killed his father, for instance, there would be no knowing how violently the tabby tom would react. If in a prolonged state of anger, Flame tends to become an avenger -- a cat with a desire to right whatever wrong he or his loved ones have suffered through, and who will stop at nothing to bring "justice".
If there is one thing Flame enjoys, it is fighting. Looking for worthy opponents is the only thing that could make him leave his family for any amount of time. Any sort of commotion makes him flex his claws and grin in anticipation -- he knows his strength is superb, and he loves nothing more than proving his power. Every day is like a contest to him, one he is intent on winning each and every time. Needless to say, he's a terrible loser -- but then again, he doesn't lose that often in a way that would allow the winner to get away with the victory.
Unlike many cats, the dark brown tom does not lack the ability to befriend new felines from unknown pasts. To him, a friend is a friend, no matter who or what they pledge allegiance to. Once he is your comrade, Flame is a friend until the end, staying ever loyal and faithful. This naturally leaves him subsceptible to betrayal, but few dare to cross the brutish tom in such a manner. If he deems it necessary, Flame can be abusive of his friends. It's not unknown for him to utilize friends as tools with brutality and ruthlessness. It is partially because of this that he has failed to form very many long-term relationships... or perhaps vice versa. The causes and results are often indistinguishable. He has never been used as a tool himself, and therefore does not understand how difficult the position he places others in is. This loyalty also manifests itself as a fierce possessiveness: if someone is his friend, he is likely to attempt to keep that someone as entirely his, with no others interfering on their relationship.
There is no lack of ambition in Flame -- indeed, one could call him a cat driven by it. He has a lust for power that often threatens to overwhelm him, and it has caused him to hurt those close to him in the past. If his mind is set on a specific goal, he will stop at nothing to brutally tear his way to it. In his initial rage, he often barely notices he is doing this: afterwards, he wallows in remorse. Sometimes, these periods of calm after the storm lead to growth in his character. Sometimes, they simply stoke the flames once more to extract a fiery vengeance.

History: Flame was born to two loners in the Colony by the Lake, Stone and Mud: as the only tom of his litter, it was immediately obvious what role he would play in the little family. From a very young age, the tom expressed many of the traits that would mark him for the rest of his life -- hot-headedness, a ferocious temper, a burningly jealous possessiveness over his sisters. It was at the age of three and a half moons, when his eyes had finally overgone a transition from baby blue through green and amber to a vivid orange that Stone settled on the name for her eldest son. The tom would be known a Flame, and he would come to carry that moniker well.
It was only a few weeks after his son had received his permanent name that Mud met his end in Longclaw's attack. Though it was never officially discovered who or what had caused the tom to disappear, Flame was convinced his father had been murdered, and cursed himself for not having been strong enough to protect his father. He had idolized Mud, and had been looking forward to learning from the tom, since he expected to be the cat to look after his mother and sisters after his father. The untimely death of the older tom forced the younger tom into a state of denial -- despite his young age, he began to train as well as he could on his own, struggling to reach the potential he knew he possessed.
Longclaw entered Stone's life and began to take Mud's place after the tom's death: though Flame was glad to see someone supporting his mother -- he acknowledged his young age would not allow him to fully support his family on his own -- he accepted the black tom's presence with a grudge. Though he never thought of delving further into the former Clancat's past, he felt uneasy around the tom, and felt little kinship with his foster father. Still, the two managed a peaceful coexistence, though Flame is still unsure how and why this occurred -- he simply stayed out of the tom's way and hoped he could still provide for his sisters somehow.
When Dapple died and Rain left the colony, Flame's world crumbled temporarily. The dark tom faded into a mere shell of himself, drenched too deeply in self-loathing for his inability to protect his sisters to even attempt to find out what had caused this calamity to fall upon his loved ones. The birth of his younger half-siblings was what finally brought the now withered and weakened tom back to his senses: he took up his former training in earnest, hoping he could protect these younger siblings and not fail like he had for Mud, Dapple, and Rain. Currently, his attention is focused on the rumors floating from StormClan: it seems trouble is brewing beyond the mountain, and if what he has heard is true, it seems his wayward sister Rain is at the center of events.
